DYEING
Variations on Variegation--Learn to dye various types of multi color yarns using acid dyes. We’ll dye 4 different yarns. The first will be a traditional space dyed yarn (or warp), we’ll paint this yarn.  Second we’ll dye a yarn guaranteed not to stripe. This yarn has lots of color (Monet-like) but no undesired striping or patterning. Third we’ll dye a self-striping yarn learning to make that faux fair isle look. Fourth we’ll dye a solid yarn to use for ribbings etc. with your other yarns. We’ll also discuss various methods to accentuate or disguise the colors patterns. Design colorful yarns using common approaches including:  split complimentary, triad, and analogous and pleasing proportions.

Dyeing Self-Striping yarns—Not for Socks only
Dye several different self-striping yarns plus one solid. Each colorway makes a hat, pair or socks, or scarf. Dye mock fair isle and explore uses for these yarns and how to accent their unique characteristics. Learn innovative methods to plan the length of color repeats for knitting, weaving, or crocheting using the teacher’s simple formulas. Design colorful yarns using common approaches including:  split complimentary, triad, and analogous and pleasing proportions.  This class may run 1 or 2 days. In 2 days we can accomplish 3-4 self striping patterns, plus a solid, and a fun silk scarf painting.  In one day, we can dye 2 self-striping patterns plus a solid with an optional 3rd self-striping pattern for over achievers.

Natural Dyeing for vibrant results-- If you have been disappointed in your natural dyed fabrics and yarns or if you do pretty well with wool but want to move to more challenging fibers on which to get intense colors, this is the class for you. Leave with a completed item including framing.  This is also available as a half day class but with a much simpler design
